Alzheimer’s patients need antioxidants to combat the oxidative stress that is destroying neurons in their brains. Of the many choices for antioxidants, I treated my mother with ginko biloba, selenium, and grape seed extract. Were she alive today, I would probably add acai and plant sterols to that list.

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that should be taken by nearly all people, not just those afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. Antioxidants help remove so-called “free radical” oxygen that is harmful to cells, especially nerve cells in the brain. It turns out that Vitamin E is more potent in the body when taken simultaneously with Vitamin C. These two vitamins have a synergistic effect.

Researchers at the University of Michigan (U of M) Comprehensive Cancer Center believe that sulforaphane could become both a novel and highly effective treatment for breast cancer. Current chemotherapy treatments attack rapidly dividing cells but do nothing to stop cancer stem cells — the small number of specific cells responsible for fueling the growth of cancerous breast tumors. [2] In laboratory experiments, sulforaphane was shown to target and kill cancer stem cells and prevented new malignancies from growing.
