Ascension of Jesus ChristThe Transfiguration of Jesus Christ Beatitudes Sermon on the Mount of Jesus Christ Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God
Hi, I haven't attended the catholic church for about 20years after having being brought up in it. About 5 years ago I started to attend an anglican church. My mother feels I made the commitment to being a catholic and I should remain a catholic. My thoughts are that I did make a commitment as a child, now as an adult I have made a more mature and informed choice. I attend a bible study each week now and have learnt so much more than I ever did before and I really question some of the teachings of the catholic church. I have started studying other religions recently, not with a view to converting, as I am definately a Christian, but with a view to understanding of others beliefs, it has made me think about the catholic church. I feel to some degree that I do not really have a clear view of all their doctrines and am hoping to find a good book regarding this soon, so I know exactly what their teachings are. Any suggestions?

I suppose my question is about the stance of the catholic church in regards to lapse catholics who have changed to a different denomination. Can we be saved? My knowledge of the bible tells me that "we are saved by faith alone", not by belonging to a particular faith? So why does our faith need to be tied to one particular church - I feel that most churches probably have got a few things wrong within their particular docrines. Should we not have our faith tied instead to God/Jesus and his Word? If we confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, then we are saved.
